We’re all about transparency here. While we love Greensboro and subscribe to its many positive attributes, like any town, it has its setbacks. One of, if not the, most important parts of choosing the right place to start a home or life is being fully aware of any setbacks to an area prior to starting your home buying journey. This is where we’re here to help. In the spirit of honesty, we’ve compiled a list of a few main points that, although not deal breakers for some, may just be key reasons moving to Greensboro is not right for you.
Reason 1- The mosquitos
We know, it may not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering factors for buying a home, but, if you’ve lived in central North Carolina during the summer months, you know what we’re talking about. Greensboro was actually listed in theTop 100 Most Mosquito Ridden towns, according to Orkin. Luckily we are far enough north in the state that we don’t have to worry about the giant bugs or spiders as much, but If you are someone who absolutely hates these tiny itchy critters, Greensboro may not be for you.
Reason 2- If you don’t have a car
Unlike some other big cities, Greensboro is not one that is super walkable as of now, so in order to get around most efficiently, you have to have access to a car. The city is working hard to improve upon this and is actually in the planning stages of a “social district”. This will be one which you’ll be able to easily walk, as well as carry food and drink around. However, the social district is not something expected to be completed for a while.
There is a bus system in use, but in all honesty, it is okay at best. The routes are few and not the most efficient. There are also bike trails around the city but not necessarily great for things other than exercise for leisure. All this to say, If you’re looking for walkability, Greensboro may not be for you.
Reason 3- Lacks a Big City Vibe
While Greensboro has plenty to do and offer, and no lack of fun by any means, It does offer more of a laid back small town feel. If you’re someone who is drawn to a fast-paced, constantly moving area with a late night scene and a lot of action and hustle, you might consider somewhere other than Greensboro. Here you’ll find most places close fairly early. it’s quiet and friendly for the most part, and it will come as no surprise that most everyone knows everyone. As such, If you’re looking for a big city way of life, Greensboro may not be for you
Reason 4- The Airport
The Greensboro airport is a toss up for a lot of people. While it started as a negative for some, a fair share of Greensboro residents would agree to it growing on them. The reason being, it is small and requires connecting flights to and from most locations. If you are someone who travels a lot, out of the country, and requires non-stop flights, this airport may not be the best for your needs. However, if you are going somewhere within the US, and don’t mind a connecting flight, it’s worth considering that the Greensboro airport is smaller, simpler, faster, easier to get in and out of, and the people there are very nice. It’s considered one of the most hassle free airports in the state, but It really just depends on your needs. If you are someone looking to travel from your city on a regular basis, directly to your destination, Greensboro may not be for you.
We hope that this gave some insight into a few reasons why Greensboro may or may not be the right move for you. As always, it’s important to do your own research and take into consideration things you love and hate about an area before even beginning your home buying journey there.
