Weather by Month in Greensboro, NC

Most people who move to the Piedmont Triad from outside the state have an idea of what the weather is like, but we’re always asked, “Does it snow?” The simple answer is yes! But we’re here to give you more detail about what weather to expect throughout the year in Greensboro, NC.

In Greensboro, annual temperatures range from 31°F to 87°F and are rarely below 18°F or above 94°F. The summers are long, warm, and muggy. The winters are short, cold, and sometimes snowy, although we see more wintry mix than snow. That’s a general overview. Let’s break it down by month:

January

January is the coldest month in Greensboro. It’s also the month with the most snowfall historically. We may see two to three snowfall days with around two inches of accumulation. By the way, if there’s a chance of snow in the forecast, we will raid the bread aisle and shut the town down.

February

In February, Greensboro experiences a mild and dry winter, and it’s most people’s least favorite month. The temperature typically stays between 30°F and 50°F and overcast throughout the month.

March

In Greensboro, March brings spring-ish weather and relief to the February blues with highs in the low 6os and lows around 40°F. Typically, it feels like spring toward the end of the month.

April

Spring has sprung! In April, temperatures start creeping into the 70s and rarely drop below 50°F. Greensboro sees around nine days of rain in April. Plants bloom with rising temperatures and rain, which leads to pollen and allergies! Allergy season is no joke in the South. The yellow dust that covers every surface in the spring is not dust – It’s pollen.

May

In May, temperatures begin breaking into the 80s and rarely fall below 60°F, and it starts to feel like summer. Pools open on Memorial Day weekend, and kids are almost out of school. Allergies are still killers, so don’t stop taking your daily Claritin! The best times of year to visit Greensboro for warm-weather activities are from mid-May to late June and from mid-August to early October, as July and early August tend to be very hot and humid.

June

It’s officially summer, but only the dog days of summer at the end of June. Summertime is a well-loved season, but it gets hot and stays hot! In June, temperatures are in the upper 80s, with lows in the 70s at night.

July

Welcome to the dog days! June is the hottest month of the year in Greensboro. It’s hotter than the devil, with temperature highs in the 90s on most days. Have you heard about the humidity in Greensboro? With an average relative humidity of 70%, July is the most humid month in Greensboro. Summer storms are unpredictable, scattered in small pockets as they move across the state. The showers bring thunder, dark clouds, and heavy rain, but they’re not something locals dread. Most people enjoy the smell of a summer storm coming. The wind picks up, the clouds go dark, and we look forward to a cooling off!

August

Temperatures begin to drop a tad bit in August to the high 80s, which is very warm for most areas across the US. The summer humidity keeps it toasty, with an average relative humidity of 73%.

September

Fall is in the air! Well, kind of. In September, temperatures stay between 81° and 61°, and it’s moderately humid. Even with warm weather, you’ll see fall themes like hay rides and pumpkins.

October

Hi, it’s Jeff Valentino. In 2019 my 2 sons and I packed up and moved to Winston Salem from the suburbs of Chicago. We didn’t know one person here. I wished there was a resource for people like me who are considering a similar move, so I decided to make one!
