Whether you’re looking for a packed coliseum show, an up and coming band at a local venue or just some acoustic guitar at your local coffee shop, Greensboro NC’s music scene has you covered. From National touring acts such as Elton John, all the way down to open mic nights and everything in between, you’ll have no trouble finding  your jam in this city.

#1. The Greensboro Coliseum 

The first place on our list and probably the most obvious is one of the largest  entertainment venues on the East Coast. Home to the women’s and mens ACC tournament, Monster Jam,  The National Mermaid Convention, countless national touring acts and so much more, the Greensboro coliseum has hosted everyone from its first ever live concert in 1972, The Monkees, to WJMH’s Super Jam,  featuring top hip hop artists such as LL Cool Jay and Ludacris, all the way to renowned  jam band Phish, with a record setting 23,642 attendees.  There is no shortage of events and concerts for the whole family here.  Stay up to date on the Greensboro Coliseum’s latest event schedule here https://www.greensborocoliseum.com/events.

 

#2. The White Oak Amphitheater 

Located on the southern end of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex campus, The white Oak Amphitheater is  next on the list of best places to see live music in Greensboro.  Established in 2011, out the old bottling plant for Canada Dry, the White Oak Amphitheater christened its facility with a concert by the Beach Boys, and has since seen housed acts such as ZZ Top, Jamey Johnson, and Counting Crows. A fully outdoor venue, the Amphitheater has general admission lawn seating for over 5,000 and reserved seats for over 2,000. #3 The Flat Iron 

Number three on our list is the Flat Iron Greensboro. Somewhat new to the scene the Flat iron was established in 2019, and is located on Summit Avenue. The Flat Iron has an intimate bar room feel, and welcomes original music of all kinds. It is  a great place to catch new up and coming artists and bands, as well as more seasoned artists. Some  acts that have graced the stage of the Flat Iron recently include Charleston SC musician Susto, Jazz Guitarist Charlie Hunter, and Sam Fribush, the oregon player for folk band, Hiss Golden Messenger. #4 Wahoos Tavern 

Number 4 on our list is one of the best hidden gems in the city. The self proclaimed “Best bar in Greensboro” Wahoos Tavern is located at Walker and Elam intersection in Lindley Park. With dim lighting and vintage decor gracing every inch of the walls you’ll find the stereotypical dive bar atmosphere that welcomes all kinds to pull up a stool and solve the world’s problems. Wahoos offers daily drink specials and weekly live music. #5 Common Grounds 

Last but not least on our list is Common Grounds,  a little coffee shop and wine lounge  on Elam Ave,  right around the corner from Wahoos Tavern. Common Grounds  is a local favorite with not only amazing coffee and wine selections, but it also features tons of great local art on its walls, a full game room with a pool table in the back, and a stage that serves as extra seating during the day, however in the evenings, welcomes a multitude of local artist.  Common Grounds hosts everything from open mic nights to live acoustic shows, and is a great place to sit at during the day while you work or visit in the evening to unwind in its super comfy atmosphere.  You can keep up with everything Common Grounds has to offer on their website
